During the Reagan administraiton it was the right wing people who started up a censor board for music and arts that issued stickers like Parentally approved. His photography was part of his gay activism...but they targeted him so much and the museums who dared to exhibit him trying to shut down the subsidies that flowed to (gay) artists' promotion. They tried, but Robert's art survived it all.
